" Here we have a double entry book : first, the long autobiographical of a top communist politician Tran Tu Binh (" Phu Riêng , Red : the story of a revolt on a Michelin plantation in Indochina in 1930 " published in Vietnamese in 1965 ), secondly, the deep recent study of the expert of the social history of the Puy-de-Dôme, Éric Panthou (" the Sources of particularism at Michelin plantations in Indochina ,from their origin to 1939 " ) . The disparate nature of these texts, and their own differences , make a fascinating whole, extremely informative , both on the facts as they memorial and political refraction. [ ]
If we want to have a more nuanced view (which does not mean complacent , we'll see later) and broader view of the colonial rubber plantations , we therefore will turn instead towards Eric Panthou , successively bringing its analysis on rationality economic status and treatment of their workforce , and finally on the political consequences - tensions and protests - violence that is exercised there .
